What Some Customers Thought

Geat product, worth every penny!

I work all day estimating the area of houses for energy audits. This tape measure replacement is the best. Good button layout. Great accuracy. The laser is easy to see and only requires a tiny surface to shine it on to get a good reading, unlike the sonic units. My biggest problem was holding it steady enough to catch a piece of 1/2 inch trim 30+ feet away. I solved that by holding it up against a fixed surface to steady my hand.^M
If you are a professional doing measurements all day this will pay for itself in a week or two.

Handyman Dan

I've owned a Sears sonic type measuring device for a year or so. It's accuracy is questionable so I was skeptical purchasing another measuring device, especially for $100 bucks. I tried the Fat Max and was amazed at the difference. I do a lot of finish carpentry (crown moulding, base, casement) by myself and this device is a true time saver. Measuring a room full of furniture with any degree of accuracy with a tape measure can be difficult at best. With the Tru-Laser is't a piece of cake. When estimating crown or base moulding the ability to continually add measurements makes overbuying or underbuying material a thing of the past. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is it's use in sunlight. It's very difficult if not impossible to pickup the laser outdoors in bright sunlight. A backlite display would be nice too. But all in all this unit is well worth the $100 bucks. I've tested it against a tape measure and it's proved very accurate. Let's face it, trying to measure a 25' wall by yourself with a tape measure to cut a piece of crown moulding I would image the margin for error would be greater than the 1/4" from the Tru-Laser.

Professional Grade Device

Found unit highly accurate in measuring building interiors and exteriors. Measured up to 80 feet so far outside and when I checked accuracy with a tape measure, the device was right on. Rooms are sometimes not framed uniformly or walls have waves in them. This device makes taking more than one measurement between walls in a room a snap to check for rooms that aren't square. In rooms that are cluttered it's easy to measure. Just point make sure the laser is on the area you want to measure and its done; with the laser you'll never need anyone to hold a tape for you again!^M

Measuring gable heights on the exterior of a two or three story building to determine roof slopes is easy. On the interiors, vaulted ceilings are no longer a problem with the laser. Haven't had unit long enough to know about battery life. This is the only question I have at this point. ^M

The Device will give areas and volumes and has several options for inch fractions or decimal point displays.(Personally I found 1/8 inch increments the best choice here, but fraction display is tiny, if you need reading glasses you may need them to read these fractions) Display is not lighted. When I'm scoping fire damaged buildings with no light inside I am able to read display with lamp or flashlight just as I would have to with a tape measure. (Stanley Corp., a lighted display option would be a plus for restoration contractors and insurance adjusters. I'm an insurance adjuster with a Major Insurance Carrier.) ^M
