Dissappointed

I usually thought of Dewalt as a good American or European product. But after recieving my DW718 saw and the stand for it I was extremely dissappointed, the saw was made in Mexico and the stand in China. I came very close to sending it back. No more Dewalt for me, they can keep their Chineese and Mexican junk. Selling at american made prices, and made at 30 cent an hour labor--sickning. I don't look at them as Dewalt products, I look at them as cheap Mexican and Chineese products.

Very poor Quality/Jay is right

Jay has it right on. I also own a dw706,I am not trying to bash DeWalt,I have many yellow tools and the 706 is a good saw for base and crown capacity upright. This dw718 is something like you would expect from Harbor Freight Tools Brands,the castings alone are very crude. $720 with laser,and a cheap series 20 60th blade is way too much. It went back.^M
I bought a ls1013L, what a difference,great saw,super build/finish. The laser is preinstalled,can move line without tools to eitherside of kerf quickly and the vertical does not change as on the 718 if you move the laser kerf position you need an allen wrench and have to play with the guard. I would have bought the 12" if I did not have the DW706. The Makita is Made in USA even,except for the blade.^M
I understand the capacity is good but the accuracy,etc. is crude, even the holdown shaft "D" shaped end looks like someone rubbed it on rough concrete,not even flat. ^M
Checked another display at Lowes and the same thing.esp. rough slider action too.

DW718 exceeded my expectations

I too received a DVD from Dewalt, and after doing some comparisons, I narrowed my choices to this model and a comparable Bosch 12"Dewalt swayed me with the positive bevel stops. This unit had no cosmetic flaws, is as easy to transport as my old 705, and is lighter than my 708. I did have to true up the miter pointer and the bevel settings, but I get no deflection as a previous writer complained about. I like the horizontal rail set-up and once the laser system is fine tuned, I don't think there's any better units on the market.^M
