What Some Customers Thought
Damaged but still working
I ordered this item after reading all the reviews. I was planning to buy it from a store but it is difficult to find a biometric safe, especially this one. The product itself is great, sometimes it is difficult to use the finger print function because it doesn't read your prints properly. You always can use the keypad instead. In order to open the safe you still need the keys. You have the option to leave the keys on the safe which is not recommended. ^M

The product came a little damaged, had couple of dents and scratches. I did not want to return because it is a big hassle. It is heavy, not easy to move ( which is good) I spoke to Amazon and they gave me a 20% discount which satisfied me. ^M

I always have trusted Amazon, they did not let me down this time. This is the first time I had a concern regarding an order. Go ahead and buy it, if you are not satisfied it is easy to contact a customer representative. I only had to wait 2 minutes on the phone then a friendly representative took care of everything.
Pleased with the safe but it still only gets four stars
To start, I purchased this safe locally for around $200. I think that my store had the price labeled wrong because I've not seen them in the store since I got it back in January. Works for me! Because I purchased it locally, I did not have to suffer with the shipping problems that some of the other reviewers had to put up with. I can see how they had problems because there is no real padding between the box and the safe. (I read all of the reviews prior to purchasing the safe.)^M

I actually picked up this safe when I was moving between two towns. I actually drove the UHaul to the store and just loaded it in the back. It's a good thing that I had a dolly because this thing weighs a lot! (Amazon.com says it weighs 119 pounds.) I did not feel like carrying this thing up a flight of stairs and the dolly that I had could not go up at a safe enough angle to move the safe. I ended up literally rolling the safe up the stairs and then putting it back on the dolly to move around my apartment. It must have looked really funny but atleast it got the job done.^M

I'm going to back up a little bit of what Jasjin wrote in his review. I too bought the safe so that I can keep my two pistols out of my daughter's hands but can still quickly get to them. The safe came with three keys (1 master and 2 priviledged keys). The master key will open the safe with no restrictions even if the safe has temporarily locked out the keypad or fingerprint scanner or the batteries have died. (The safe will lock out the keypad or scanner after too many bad attempts; will resume after a few minutes). The priviledged keys will only open the safe with the use of the keypad or scanner. The keypad can remember one code and the scanner can remember ten codes. So I keep the master key on my key ring with my apartment and car keys; one priviledged key remains in the safe since it won't open the safe without the code or fingerprint; the third key is on a key ring with my spare apartment and car keys.^M

Now here are my only complaints. Given the size of the safe, it would actaully be nice to have a second shelf to put inside. Also the scanner is pretty picky. You have to place your finger on the scanner _exactly_ the same way when you scanned it into the safe to include the amount of pressure or angle which you touch the scanner. Also, in my opinion, it is faster to open the safe using the keypad. Either way, you have to hit the * button to activate them. The scanner would be useful perhaps in a business where more than two people need to get in the safe. To quickly get to my gun, I'm going to use the keypad. For the home, I would recommend the Brink's 5054D. It's .76cu instead of 1.2cu and does not have the fingerprint scanner but it's also only $150.
Great Deal and Good Shipping
Well I had a great experience too. I saw the reviews from early on and ordered the safe anyway. It arrived without a scratch! The only thing that was a bit of a let down was a delay in shipping of my safe. I ordered it before Christmas and the shipping date kept getting moved back until mid January. But now that it is here I really love it.^M

I use it by leaving one of the keys in place. In this manner the key is basically a handle to open the lock. So my operation to open the safe is to just touch the * key and then put my finger on the reader. The safe identifies my finger and unlocks the locking mechanism for about 5 seconds. During that 5 seconds I turn the key/handle to open the door.^M

Also the finger print reader is really good. It doesn't have any slop to its reading like I've experienced on some other finger print reader products. If you don't put your finger exactly in the right spot it won't be accepted. But once you learn to position your finger consistently in the same position it works like a champ.^M

I genuinely recommend this product and its shipping.^M
