| Product Description Do everything with this sander, from rapid stock removal all the way up to clean, swirl-free finishing. Hook and loop-backed sanding discs attach in a second, and we especially like the option of using five- or eight-hole paper so you can choose your favorite brand. There are six speeds to choose from, beginning at 5,000 orbits per minute and topping out at 12,000, and they can be adjusted while the sander is running. We like the safety of the pad brake, which limits pad rotation to 400 rpm when the tool is lifted from the work surface. The dust canister is plastic, rather than a bag, so wear and tear won't have much effect on it. It doesn't really collect too much dust, but if you hook up a shop vacuum to the port, the dust is whisked away. The canister rotates 360 degrees around the body of the sander, a nice convenience for tight spaces. We think it's comfortable to hold both by the head of the tool and around the main housing, whichever suits you. Excellent Sander I purchased this sander a few years ago and use it several times a month. I like the great hook and loop (velcro style) method of fastening the paper to the sander. It is a real time saver. The dust collector works good, but I often hook this up to my small shop vac to get even more dust collection. I have had no problems with this tool, can easily find all the sandpaper for it a many stores or online. I buy the Mirka brand in bull to save money. If you need a basic random orbital sander, I really reccomend this one!
KISS Keep It Simple Stupid. Get one. It beats anything the Germans, Japanese, Chinese or others have to offer. And have lots of children so you can pass it down from generation to generation as an heirloom.
A true finish sander The Porter Cable 333VS is a variable speed sander of great versatility. I find it very efficient in preping wood for finishing, but I have also found it to be great for sanding between finish coats. I use a lot of lacquer on my furniture and cabinets. The 333VS, set at low speed, with a fresh sheet of 180 or 220 paper, quickly levels any flaws without gumming up the paper. The secret is low speed and constant movement of the sander. Single speed sanders tend to melt the finish not remove it. |
