Product Description

To be honest, we looked twice at the price, certain the folks at Amazon had made a mistake. But sure enough, they're right--and so is the price. Porter-Cable makes some of the best pneumatic tools in the industry, and these nailers are two prime examples. The 16-gauge is sturdy, compact, lighter and quieter than you'd expect with a grip even smaller hands can get around. Great balance, easy depth-of-drive adjustment, and a pleasure to use. Similarly, the 18-gauge is light but rugged, comfortable and maneuverable, even in awkward places or after long runs. Some other features we like: a special hardened driver blade, a sequential fire trigger, a visual reload indicator, a safety located behind the driver guide for driving brads in tight spaces and an easy-to-adjust depth guide. Both guns have directional exhausts, too. The pancake-style compressor has a six-gallon tank and easily runs both guns at the same time. It's light, portable and doesn't want much from you in terms of maintenance--it's oil-free and Teflon-coated. Some other reasons to like it: a high-flow regulator, an easy-to-read air pressure gauge, automatic thermal overload protection, an industrial-style quick-connect body in the air outlet, and a long-life motor with replaceable brushes. We can't imagine this deal will be around forever.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

What Some Customers Thought

Satisfied, with the exception of...

My wife bought this kit because we were doing renovations. Was satisfied with nailers performance but was confused because of compressor running nonstop then dumping air tank constantly. After inspection of compressor and review of parts schematic, I realized there was no pressure switch. Let me give you some background. A pressure switch is placed in air circuit to cut power to compressor when a predetermined air pressure is reached. If switch fails to perform this task the safety valve will release air in tank to prevent over-pressurization. ^M
^M
Compressor can function with only a safety valve, but not very efficiently. According to manual there is a pressure switch kit that can be purchased at an additional cost but I have not been able to locate one anywhere.^M
^M
As I said previously, it can work and I do still use it. Although, I would not have purchased this item if I would have known this.

Works Great - Except for the Air Hose

Zero complaints except the air hose they include leaks a little (which is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5). Fortunately, I called Porter Cable and they sent me a new one - no charge.^M

Nailers work exactly like they should. I've used them for trim and it actually makes it fun to put the stuff up! The compressor is indeed loud, but it's to be expected and it rarely kicks on while working.^M

I would DEFINITELY recommend this item.

Reliable and durable

I have used the combo nailer for a few projects, mainly furniture building which is why I purchased it in the first place. Despite doing a fantastic job of nailing molding and shelving in place, the kit can be used to blow dust out of tight spaces and clear wood before finishing (especially after sanding.) The nailers have nail height adjustments that will leave the nail head at various heights above the wood, which comes in handy when you don't want a nail blasting through a finished side of board.^M
Some things to consider though are the purchase of other pneumatic tools later on. You want to be sure that the compressor will support the psi needed on those tools down the road (this compressor will accomodate quite a few other pneumatics as well - like HVLP sprayers.) Also, you want to make sure that the volume is adequate. The portability is wonderful and does keep up with my uses, although they have been mild to moderate in volume.^M
Overall, very well made (no jams to clear for me using either nailer) and very easy to use and transport to wherever you need it. Highly recommend if the psi capacity suits your needs down the road.
