| Product Description This tool makes humans as close to foolproof as we can get, at least when it comes to measuring, cutting and installing trim without a flaw. We love that it's a solid piece, with nothing adjustable on it, so you know its 45- and 90-degree angles are always true. It takes the gymnastics out of measuring, too, whether screwed to your workbench or temporarily tacked to the working wall with 6d finish nails, because of the built-in tape measure hooks. Even tricky inside-to-inside miters are a snap. Perfect 3/16-inch reveals on windows and door jambs are guaranteed every time: Just line it up and draw your guide with the pencil holes. Though it's marketed for casements, we'd keep it in the toolbox for all kinds of jobs. Imagine installing baseboard up to door trim and lining up the Trim Loc for a perfect cutline every time. Makes mitered casing installation drop-dead simple If you install mitered casing trim the standard way, you do the two side pieces first, and then measure for the top. I used to have all kinds of troubles getting the top piece's angles to be exactly 45 degrees and form a tight miter. It turns out most of this was probably due to the left and right pieces being ever so slightly not plumb.^M

This tool is a big help for that -- just pop it in the corner of the jambs and put the mitered side piece against it -- boom, perfect 45! Now your top piece will be nice and 45 too, and you'll save time cutting and tuning.^M

It costs as much as if it were made from stainless steel or perhaps platinum, but it easily saved me 10 minutes per side of each door I did, and lots of trips to the saw, so I'd say it's worth it.^M

Quick and handy tool I have recently bought a new house and I am in the process of a full renovatation. New kitchen, bathrooms, floors and all new windows and doors. I am also replacing all the "clam shell" type molding with a more tradional "colonial style" throughout the house too. This tool is great for anyone who has to trim a lot of doors and windows. It works exactly as advertised. |
