What Some Customers Thought
Great Chainsaw!
I've been very happy with this chainsaw. I've been using it for 3 months to cut piles of oak trees into firewood. It has plenty of power for my purposes and it looks and feels like a quality product. It's certainly quieter, cleaner, and more user-friendly than a comparable gas chainsaw. I'll buy this same chainsaw again if the one I have ever dies on me.
bate and switch blade
I was very disappointed that the blade shipped was not the one shown in the image/picture on the amazon web site. The picture on the amazon web site shows a much superior blade nose sprocket, you can tell buy the distinctive four rivets. What came with the saw was an inferior cheaper oregon blade with a one rivet sprocket. Also having bought many chains before, the look of the workmanship of the super safty chain suppled looks like junk. the cost of upgrading the blade and chain negates any savings. I am returning the saw to amazon and will spend the little extra at my local tool store where I have seen the saw with the superior blade and chain. I can not see inside the motor housing but the blade switch makes me wonder about what corners did they cut inside. I must say that i have been satisfied with the makita tools i've bought in the past, including a chain saw bought used 11 years ago. I am sad that I cannot wholehartly recomend makita any more.
Well made electric saw
I needed an electric chainsaw that would see occasional professional use where my gas powered saws wouldn't be applicable. As I demand a dependable tool, I narrowed my search to 3 makes that have solid reputations: Stihl, Makita, and Milwaukee. Milwaukee and Stihl, while probably fine saws in their own right, were quicky out of the running just due to the constraint that I needed a saw for a job and had only a four day window in which to operate. The Makita UC4000 was in stock. I've had positive experiences with Makita products in the past. I ordered and I had the saw in two days.^M

The Makita UC4000 is a solid saw and it's evident from the first time you heft it. I unpacked the saw, fitted the chain and bar, added some quality chain oil, grabbed the safety gear and headed out back with an extension cord to test it on some oak and silver maple. I found the saw well powered and was actually quite surprised with how quickly it cut considering that it is an electric. I got carried away and ended up cutting much more firewood than I had planned on. The saw is a pleasure to operate, especially when you're accustomed to using loud 13lb professional saws.^M

This is a great saw for the average homeowner who does not need or want a gas powered saw, and I think that this is also a very suitable saw for construction/handyman applications due to its solid construction.
