What Some Customers Thought
Take a chance !
Used the saw to cut some 10 inch branches in some precarious locations. It worked great. The pole and extention are solid. The saw has plenty of power, but a lot of plastic--It would probably break if you dropped it from 8ft onto concrete. Easy to buy parts from the Remington website. An excellent choice as long as you are not a professional trimmer, using it every day. I know I'll miss the safety feature on my gas chainsaw--It won't start when I need it most.
New and Improved
Looks like Remington took to heart some of the previous shortfalls of the design. It's still a $99.00 chainsaw on a pole but it does a great job on light work. They improved the pole itself. It is now shaped like a hexagon on the extension rod that utilizes a lever locking clamp. This design prevents the annoying rotation of the saw that many people complained about. The lever seems to lock the extension pole tightly in place. Another area of improvement is the pole attachment procedure. One thumbscrew, a molded handle and and a threaded rod enable easy attachment and removal of the extension pole. I connected the pole in less than 30 seconds. The chain oil pressure bulb seems to be molded into a threaded cap so it should stay on more securely. The power cables have protection hoods and slightly oversized plugs and receptacles. Seems like a tight enough fit. You could always use a little electrical tape to secure or even a wire tie. All in all, I am happy with the product and it performed well for the job at hand...as expected.
My Experience; Remington 10 inch Pole Saw
I have used my 10 inch Remington Pole Saw on several home-type jobs and found it quite handy, but does have a few shortfalls.^M
1) Since it is electric it starts every time...a major plus.^M
2) The blade chain is relatively easy to replace when the teeth get dull.^M
3) Blades chains are readily available at Home Depot.^M
4) Although I have read that others have a problem tying a knot in the extension cord, I have done it many times with ease. It would be nicer though if a gadget had been included to lock the extension cord to the saw instead of requiring us to tie a knot. It is not like the manufacturer didn't know we had to use an extension cord (duh).^M
5) The saw separated from the pole is great, but getting it on and off requires too much effort... four screws and the switch clamp is workable, but could have been made simpler.^M
6) The bulb on the oil filler cap comes off very, very easily. I have lost it several times and had to stop the job to look for the black rubber bulb. When it gets knocked off I think debris gets into the oil compartment. When the oil spills out, the handle gets all messy. Today I finally lost it for the last time. I can't find it. If anyone knows where or how I can obtain another one please advise.^M
7) The telescoping pole uses a threaded plastic gripping device to tighten the pole at the length chosen. This gripping device does not grip the pole tight enough... the saw rotates and becomes misaligned with the on-off switch making it almost impossible to use. I placed a hose clamp around it, but that was not effective. I think some of the chain oil is in there and makes it slippery. It would have been nice if the manufacturer had made the pole square instead of round then it wouldn't rotate.^M
I like the pole saw, but am concerned about the oil filler cap bulb being missing. Please tell me where I can order another one, and what the part number is.^M
Thanks for reading my review. ^M
