What Some Customers Thought

Black & Decker Cordless Mower Replacement Blade

It was great to be able to find the item through Amazon.com that was not even available online at the Black & Decker site (was listed but cannot be ordered online). I could not find it anywhere locally in any retail or service stores. As good as the original blade that came with the mower.

How to save even more work

The motor will have an easier life and your grass will look better if the blade is kept sharp. The easiest and quickest way I've found to put an edge on the blade is with a small hand-held grinder such as Amazon's B000077CPU. ALWAYS wear leather work gloves and goggles when grinding (there will be dust and sparks), be SURE the mower is unplugged (!!!), and give the outer edge of the blade a few swipes with the grinder while it's still mounted on the mower. It's only necessary to grind the part that will face down when the mower is in use. It's easy to keep the blade balanced by grinding five "swipes" on a side then spinning the blade to do the other side the same way. It may take twenty or thirty total "swipes" but it sure beats unbolting the blade each time and using a bench grinder or a file, and you'll be more apt to keep it sharp if the task is easy. ^M
If you're disappointed with the edge-holding quality of the steel used in this and other rotary mower blades, you'll be pleased to know there's a good reason these blades are not very hard-tempered: who wants a snapped blade flying out at 200+ miles-per-hour?

This is my safety spare.

You are supposed to sharpen the blade periodically. The manual suggests about twice in a cutting season. My lawn is so small that it may take a couple of seasons for that to be required. The real reason I call this my safety spare is that I am afraid that the technology will change before I need it. This keeps me from having to buy it on the after market. In the mean time it is oiled and hanging on the garage wall just incase I "accidentally" run over my neighbor's pink flamingo ordainments and damage the blade.
